Can You Use Instagram on iPad?
If you want to use Instagram on an iPad, you’re either stuck with the web version or the iPhone app. No native Instagram app has ever existed for iPad.
So, while you can use Instagram on Apple’s tablet, it’s not the best experience. Despite complaints, Instagram has done nothing to resolve it.
Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri has addressed the issue over the years, claiming it’s something the team wants to build, but it’s never made the cut as a priority.
Not Enough People Use Instagram on iPad
The debate is back, this time raised by technology video creator Marques Brownlee. “The year is 2022 and there’s still no proper Instagram app for iPad,” he wrote on Twitter.
Instagram’s Mosseri was quick to respond. He claimed that while the company gets the request for iPad on Instagram a lot, “it’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority” and that he hopes to “get to it at some point.”
Marques replied to say that perhaps that group of people would be large if a great app existed. Indeed, Apple ships tens of millions of iPads every year. It’s fair to assume a decent chunk of those people use Instagram—though, granted, those taking and sharing photos are more likely to do so on a mobile.
Mosseri acknowledged this, but noted that each additional app adds overhead and that the team is leaner than you think; though the team is unlikely to truly be that small, considering how much revenue Instagram generates for parent company meta.
Will the iPad Ever Have a Native Instagram App?
Users have long requested a native Instagram experience on iPad. Mosseri’s tweets give a bit more context into why it’s never come to fruition, and it’s safe to assume that an Instagram iPad app isn’t going to land any time soon, if ever.
