With Battlefield 2042, the beta seemingly cemented the game’s need for extra polishing. Many were quite critical of the beta online, with one video even showing Battlefield features that weren’t present in 2042. And, because of this, many have called for the game to be delayed again. Battlefield 2042 was originally going to release in October before it was pushed back to November, and it’s a bit of an odd scenario with the game.

Delay Battlefield 2042 into 2022?

It’s not all too often that fans call for a delay, but it doesn’t seem likely that the publisher will take such an action. The beta was disappointing enough to push this issue to the fore, but as was explained, it was because this was an earlier build. Many of the bugs in Battlefield 2042 had been fixed, so it is said, but a new report from Tom Henderson paints a slightly different picture.

According to Henderson, it seems that Battlefield 2042’s state is a culmination of trying to replicate Call of Duty/Apex Legends, beginning as a battle royale game, transitioning into its current state, and a general lack of direction from management. If this is the case, then it seems clear that Battlefield 2042 would benefit from a delay. After all, per the same report, the beta was about 7 weeks old which is a good bit of time but not enough to assuage many fans.

Battlefield 2042 has been in development for a few years now, and no matter what, that beta was what DICE was capable of showing ahead of launch. It’ll be interesting to see what changes exist and how this impacts competition with Call of Duty: Vanguard and Halo Infinite, but for diehard Battlefield fans, this beta was a bit of a shocker. With all of this in mind, as well as the generation reception of the beta, fans are calling for Battlefield 2042 to be delayed again.

Now, how and if Electronic Arts responds is a big question mark, as Battlefield 2042’s release date is about 5 weeks away. Chances are, fans will be getting some of the stability, bug fixes, and more post-launch. It all remains to be seen, of course, but fans asking for this is a surprising change of pace.

Battlefield 2042 releases November 19 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
