Rafferty cites the departure of DeMarcus Cousins in conjunction with the additions of Elfrid Payton and Julius Randle as beneficial for Davis’ offense in 2018-19.
MORE: Davis really wanted Randle to sign with Pelicans
Davis, 25, averaged a career-best 28.1 points per game in 2017-18, second to only MVP James Harden. In nine postseason games, Davis led New Orleans with 30.1 points per game, including an average of 33.0 points in the Pelicans’ first-round sweep of the Trail Blazers.
The Pelicans signed Payton and Randle in the hope that they can help the team build on its success in the second half of 2017-18, particularly in the open court, where Payton and Randle thrive. Both players are capable of grabbing-and-going, which will enable Davis (and others) to focus on running the floor following missed shots and turnovers.
Provided he stays healthy, “The Brow” could very well be this year’s scoring champion.
