For fans of a 2004 movie starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, however, October 3 means only one thing: Mean Girls Day.

Exactly why that date has become associated with Mean Girls comes down to one scene in the film, in which Cady Heron (played by Lohan) describes via voiceover her increasing obsession with high school dreamboat Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett) after her infamous three-way phone call with Regina George (McAdams) and Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert).

The scene plays out as follows:

Cady [voiceover]: I had survived my first three-way calling attack. And with Regina’s blessing, I started talking to Aaron more and more. On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was.

Cady [to Aaron]: It’s October 3rd.

Though fans should not wear pink to celebrate Mean Girls Day (it’s not a Wednesday, after all), there are still plenty of “fetch” ways to celebrate this October 3. Bennett himself will be answering questions about the film on Twitter from 9 a.m. PT under the hashtag #askJonathan, for example.

Damien actor Daniel Franzese is also offering a piece of fan service to celebrate October 3: He is recording personalized Cameo videos for fans in the lead up to Mean Girls Day.

The movie will be showing on at least one cable network. At 8:20 a.m. ET / 7:20 a.m. CT, The Movie Channel will be starting the day right with a screening on Mean Girls.

U.K. Netflix also has Mean Girls 2 if fans want something new to watch—though as that movie has a rating of just 4.1/10 on IMDB, they may also want to avoid that.

Earlier this year, however, some of the cast have expressed interest in doing another sequel to the cult classic movie. “It would be fun to play Regina George later in her life and see where life took her,” McAdams said in a Heroes of Health: COVID-19 video in April.

Bennett added in a Hollywood Life interview:“I would love to do a sequel. I was extremely excited when I heard Rachel say she’d love to play Regina George again because I’ve talked to over half the cast, including Lindsay, and we all feel the same way.

“We’d love to bring these beloved characters back to life at some point, whether it be sequel or a TV series. I think the world would love to see these characters again. How cool would it be if the cast has grown up, and they are the parents to a new group of ‘Plastics’ entering high school.”
